Many are asking if Manny Villar really grew up in Tondo Manila and was really that poor before just as what was said in the TV. I think it was really true that Manny Villar came from a poor struggling family just like what the TV commercial has shown.

He was born in Moriones Tondo Manila. He attended the Holy Child Catholic School and according to some sources he sold seafood at the Divisoria market. There was a time when he was a working student that he also worked as a fish and shrimp trader.

He graduated at the University of the Philippines where he earned his Bachelor of Arts and Master of Arts degrees in Business Administration.

Prior to being a politician, he was a successful business man. Born in Dec 13, 1949 in Tondo Manila, his father was a government employee while his mother is a seafood dealer. Manny is the 2nd of nine children.

Back in 1975, he used a seed capital of PHP10,000 to buy 2 unites of reconditioned trucks to start his sand and gravel business. He later on established one of the largest residential development firm in the country (Camella Homes and Palmera Homes). They were famous for real estate development targetted at low income families.

Manny Villar entered Philippine politices back in 1992 and was elected to the House of Representatives as a Congressman for the district of Las Piñas. He became a senator in 2001.

Manny Villar expressed his intentions to run in the 2010 presidential elections. He as well as other “known presidentiables” were criticized by some groups of people about their TV ads being aired prior to the official campaign periods. However, some people said that it was not against the law since there wasn’t any official filing of candidacy yet and therefore such politicians cannot be prevented from appearing on TV.
